Have you heard about BDSM but don’t really have a clear idea of exactly what it is and would like to learn more?
If so, read on!
What Does BDSM Mean?
BDSM is actually a combination of these three terms:
- BD—Bondage and Discipline
- DS—Dominance and Submission
- SM—Sadism and Masochism
Bondage as a form of sexual play isn’t anything new. There is historical data that tells us people were using bondage and discipline as a means of revving up their sex life for hundreds of years. Bondage involves using some type of restraints for the sexual thrills of the parties involved. There are a multitude of ways bondage might be used. Here are a few:
- Tied Up
- Handcuffed
- Spreadeagled
- Hog Tied
- Blindfolded
- Gagged
- And More
bThe idea is that one partner is restrained while the other sexually stimulates him or her. Many times, this is a mutually advantageous arrangement for both persons because while one might gain a great deal of pleasure from being in the dominant role, the other derives equal enjoyment from being restrained and helpless. Needless to say, bondage is a very popular element of sexual role playing. Discipline may or may not accompany bondage. If used, discipline might take a variety of forms such as whips, spurs, paddles, etc.
This is all part and parcel of the second term incorporated into BDSM: Dominance and Submission.
Now, as for the third term—S and M—or Sadism and Masochism, again this is a practice that has been around for a long time. The word “sadism” was coined about the infamous Marquis de Sade, who thrived on torturing his victims in various ways. These hapless victims were not willing sexual partners, by the way, merely unfortunate individuals who came within his cruel grasp.
In sexual activity, sadism and masochism are indulged in to bring pleasure to both partners and work much the same way as bondage, dominance and submission. One person enjoys inflicting pain and the other enjoys receiving it.
Why is BDSM Popular With Many People?
To attempt to understand why there are those who enjoy being hurt, others who enjoy causing pain, some who like to be restrained and submissive and their counterparts who get off on being in a dominant situation would call for a lot more psychoanalytic stuff than we are qualified to go into here. Suffice to say that just as there are those among us who loathe chocolate and those that consider it the perfect food, so are there people with different sexual preferences. Whatever takes place between two willing adults is nothing to be ashamed of and shouldn’t be considered “kinky” in any way.
Adult dating sites offer a safe way for people who are into BDSM to meet others who share their passion for it. Check out some adult dating sites in Australia and New Zealand if you are in the market for BDSM partners and you might be surprised at how many hot dates you could be having!
